Pretty simple....
Total wall with window is 10 ft. x 15 ft. = 150 sq. ft.
Total window space is 2 ft. x 3 ft. = 6 sq. ft. x 2 windows = 12 sp. ft
150 - 12 = 138 sq ft.

First, you have to know that percentage is just a way of expressing a number as parts per 100. So, the first question is 8 out of 2,000 is equivalent to how many parts per 100? You can use cross-multiplication to figure this out.

8 / 2000 = X / 100

So, to solve for X, you multiply both sides by 100.
X = (8*100) / 2000 (That's 8 times 100, then divide by 2000). Or, 800 divided by 2000. Or 8 divided by 20, which is 0.4 (0.4%).

The wall question is about understanding what square feet means. The area in square feet is just the length (in feet) multiplied by the height (in feet). That gives you square feet, (feet times feet).

So, to figure out how much paint is needed for the wall, multiply 10 feet by 15 feet. That is the total area of the wall. Then, subtract the area of the windows. You aren't going to paint over the windows. Multiply 2 feet by 3 feet to get the area of ONE window, then multiply that by two to get the total area of window. Subtract the area of the windows from the total area of the wall and you know how much painting surface to cover.

X = (10 x 15) - [(2 x 3) + (2 x 3)]
X = (10 x 15) - [6 + 6]
X = (10 x 15) - 12
X = 150 - 12
X = 138

8/2000=4/1000=.004=.4%

10 X 15 =150 sq ft less 2 (2 X 3)
150 sq ft -12 sq ft
138 sq ft

8 is what percent of 2,000 and you (always divide the of into the is) so 8.000 divided by 2,000 = .004 percent

10 X 15 = 150 sq ft always lenget X width to get sq ft

then 2 X 3 = 6 X 2 windows = 12 sq ft

150 sq ft less (-) 12 sq feet of window = 138 sq ft you will paint

8 / 2000 x (100%) = 0.4 %

10 ft x 15 ft - 2 x (2 ft x 3 ft) = 138 sq ft

First, (8/2000) X 100% = 0.4%

Second, ( ((10) X (15)) - 2(2X3)) =138 square ft.

8/2,000 = .4%

10*15 = 150 <-----entire wall
2*2*3 = 12 <-------both windows

150-12 = 138 square feet

8/2000 = 0.004 = 0.4%

take the area of the wall and subtract the area of the 2 windows.
area = length x width
