Socialism is an economic theory in which property and the means of production are controlled by democratically elected councils. Socialists can be religious (Thomas More, Eugene V. Debs) as well as deeply patriotic (William Jennings Bryan).
Communism is a fanatical poltical philosophy. It's basically the same as a cult. Communists are vehemently opposed to any kind of spiritual beliefs and any methods of democracy or voting. Communists, unlike socialists, have no moral objections to violence.

I thought the difference was that Socialists do believe in multi-party governments (they just want to win most of the elections) and that they don't advocate military-based control whereas Communists were one-party and use the military to ensure control.
And Democrats are the people who think that communism is a good idea that just won't work.

They share commonalities such as shared welfare, abolition of private property, etc. Commies like communist governments with no room for democracy, Socialists, on the other hand can allow democracy (or not). And Democrats are just pricks.

The chief difference between socialism and communism is that socialism is an economic theory, which holds that there is
no such thing as private property, and that all property is owned
and administered by the state for the benefit of the people. On the other hand, Communism is a political theory, which deals more with civil rights and liberties.
