They were not allowed to vote. They generally did not enjoy the same legal rights as men--especially in the cases of divorce and domestic violence. They found it more difficult to become admitted to programs of higher education. Their opinions were not presupposed to be equal to or greater than those of men. Because they (even the single women) were not seen as primary providers in their own homes, they were not afforded the same employments opportunities men were.
