It works if the goalie is actually 4 feet wide, and 6 feet tall, and they lay down right on the goal line.
OK, so honestly, the equipmen that goalie would need would be illegal due to it's size, so the answer is NO.

Let's not forget also that the goalie would have to be on skates leading back to the other answer of shooting low because if the fat goalie would somehow get their feet in skates it would leave enough puck clearance at the skates.

In theory yes but a goalie that wide (6 feet) would be so heavy, they couldn't move much. They wouldn't have quick enough reflexes to stop every single puck (going through their legs, etc)

That'll be one fat person...but if I were GM of a team, I'd sign that goalie in a second. No puck can go through solid mass!

Yes it is. In fact, the owner of the New York Islanders, Charles Wang, hired scouts to go over to Japan to scout sumo wrestlers for that very purpose. Seriously:
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/columns/newsmakers/charles-wang.html
QUOTE: 'In an interview with the New York Times shortly after Snow's hiring, Wang, who at one time reportedly considered employing sumo wrestlers as goaltenders, admitted his management style was "unorthodox."'
It's really stupid though because you could just shoot low on them and probably score.

Intellige...>>>> why would Charles Wang do this after he signed DiPietro to a 15 year $67 million dollar contract, and then be thinking of looking for a Sumo Wrestler. I think its just a joke and its not true.

Yeah, but you're going to need someone who's over a thousand pounds to stretch across the width of the crease without moving him (or him moving).

Yes, but he would have to be short and wide to make it work best.

no, that's why they cut down the angle. you'd have to be 4 feet wide and if you were, you could not walk.
