Like I said, last time I fell asleep, it was for 16 hours. I have no idea what's wrong... I have tried the whole put your alarm clock on the other side of the room at full blast thing, but that isn't working. I don't even hear my alarm clock... My parents try to wake me up in the morning, but I don't remember them ever coming into the room. All my doctor will tell me is to try harder, but I am. I want to get up. I hate sleeping... I want to get a job, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to wake up so I would get fired. Please help...

I don't do drugs. Never have. And I don't drink caffine. I only drink water. Nothing else. The problem isn't me not wanting to get up after my alarm clock goes off, it's that I don't even hear it go off. The only perscription I'm on right now is hydrocodone, but I just started that yesterday. And this sleeping thing started way before yesterday.

My diet? No fast food, no trans fats, no hydrogenated oils. I don't eat sweets. I stay away from sugar as much as I can. I try to stick to unprocessed organic foods.

Drink lots of water.
I am like that too, i once slept for a full 24 hours....errrr more then once.
They also have these light machines that wake you up with light instead of noise. that might work. Other wise you just gotta turn that bad boy up and let it go and go till you cant take it anymore.

You're not trying. Since you're not involved in any kind of energy consuming activity, there is no reason to sleep for 16 hours. When you hear your alarm clock, wake up. Period. Don't be like "I'm gonna sleep 5 more minutes". And go get a job. Soon you'll be used to wake up at a certain time, even without an alarm clock.

i will try to help, when you go to your doctor again, ask him to test you for your iron levels in your blood. if there is low iron then that may be your problem. also have him check your thyroid.
as for diet, introduce a fair level of protein to your diet, these will help you give you energy. and as for the alarm situation. talk to your parents to see if they played alot of music when you were a kid. if you are used to hearing music playing while you are sleeping, then the alarm clock will not work.
i would recommend you try the older fashioned alarm clocks with the 2 big bells on the top. they are louder and if you place it on the bed next to your pillow or on your night stand. it should help. theres no snooze bar to hit.
my daughter does that every once in a while, sleeps for a long period of time, mostly on Friday evenings after school. it alarmed me. i took her to the docs and all he told me was not to worry unless it becomes a more frequent event.

Think about these things:
How much caffeine do you drink and how close to bed do you drink it?
Do you drink alcohol or do drugs?
Any prescription medications?
Depression can effect sleep.
How is your diet?
Do you get enough exercise?
How long are you awake before bedtime?
Maybe you need to change your life style, not your alarm clock.

Ask your Dr. To check your thyroid. What does your blood presure run? Sometimes Dr. wont check you out to good because you are to young. Tell him this is a bad problem and you really need it checked. Also there is sleep disorders.

There could be a thousand reasons. What are you doing in your waken hours?
If I was doing too much partying (especially at my age), I know I'd need to crash for 16 hours.
