computer and ipod and it should start do not diconnect until it says it is okay- it will ask you to sync what ever you named the computer location in itunes it is all under the main file menu.

Download the free iTunes software from the Apple.com website. You have to use iTunes to transfer music from your harddrive to your iPod because the iPod is a proprietory system. That means you do it their way or not at all, sorry.

Use the transfer cable which came with your iPod. It has a USB or Firewire connection on one end and a broad, flat connector on the other end which fits into the iPod (original or nano). The Shuffle has only a USB connector on one end, which you insert directly into the USB port of your computer.

If the songs on your harddrive came from a webstore or are protected in some way, you may not be able to move them onto your iPod at all.

If you've already downloaded Itunes like everyone else suggested, your Ipod should have a cable that is simple to plug into your ipod and into your computer.
