ok metallica is good (only old metallica) but come on with bands like , dio, venom ,slayer ,iron maiden, judas priest ,cradle of filth dimmu borgir, hades almighty, iced earth.......... how come metallica is always rated the best out of all metal. i think judas priest is the best because they are one of the band that made metal what it is today

I have never heard the majority of people say Metallica is the best of metal, so I wonder where you heard that from. What I can say is that they had their best work from 1986-1988 (Master of Puppets and And Justice For All..). Furthermore, I cannot say Metallica is thrash metal or traditional metal. With that said, I can tell you confidently that no band comes close to being as great as Black Sabbath (1970-78) in the traditional heavy metal genre, and no band comes close to being as great as Slayer (w/ original lineup) in the thrash metal genre. So, I guess that leaves Metallica as the balancer in the Heavy Metal Genre. Black Sabbath was original, Slayer was original, and Metallica took something from each of those two bands and made something original too--balanced heavy metal!

Highly overrated!!! Judas Priest is the grandaddy of metal! Call me crazy, but I like the bands you mentioned (remember the Sabbath to keep it holy!!) and I don't like Metallica. I can tolerate some of the older stuff if I'm in a really accepting mood, but, rather do without!

well it depends on personal opinion. I still believe that Metallica is the best (the old of course). And You have to admit though, Master of Puppets did influence Metal today, more than any other song. I mean all my teachers even know who Metallica were. I think Metallica is so popular and "overrated" because they were the most popular in the 80s and 90s, one of the best selling names, and won the most record award. Long live metallica.....

Yes, Metallica are a bunch of sell outs. They sell out any arena in any town at any time!!! By the way, I think Pantera saved metal in the early 90's when all this rap and hip-hop started taking over.

I tell you why:
They made albums like Kill'em all,Ride the lightning,Master of puppets,And justice for all and black which are pretty powerfull albums and are the bests in heavy/trash music:P .each and any of the songs from those records takes you to a diffrente world and are speciel.Metallica are great musicians+great lyrics on their songs.they play live much.Slayer(metallica's biggest chalange) plays all their songs in one mood.if you listen to one of the songs,its like you have listened to the whole album which is not good.btw dont compare Iron maiden with metallica...They are no where near metallica

I love Metallica, but I guess they can be a bit overrated. Still, they are probably the best known and most successful metal band, so the publicity is worth it, I think...

I would definetly choose slayer over metallica any day!! Somehow I am always the only one saying Metallica is overrated.... I can't stand them!!

I think they are good b/c they have lasted all these years. They've changed with the times, but in my opinion, not too much to where they can be considered sell outs.

listen, that's my advice....just listen...metallica's lyric's and skills (i.e. vocals, guitar, etc.) make them who they are. their licks and unabashed faithfulness to themselves is what made them who they are. f*ck the whole napster thing...that's not what defines them as musicians....they rock, and their songs from 20 years ago still rock...that's what makes an awesome band.

they were awesome once(old metallica)....now they really suck....metallica suckssss...they are not the best...judas preist and iron maiden rulez!!!!!!!!!!
