it could be as simple as checking the monitor plug into your computer. sometimes the pins get bent or even dust gets in there. try that first before you do anything else.

It sounds like your monitor is on the way out. Is there one that you could borrow from sombody for a little while? That way you could figure out ehat is happening.
It would also be your graphics card, but the "ping" noise is telling me that it's your monitor.
If the PC is 8 years old, it is probably due for replacement anyway! You can get some good cheap deals these days you know!

The problem could be moniter or graphic drivers or maybe hte graphic driver is defective. But it also can be something more simple. Do you usually keep your mobile phone or your home cordless phone near your moniter? Even if you are not using them they can cause this problem. Also some computer speaker (especially old ones) can cause this problem. But with speakers the problem will be there as long as the speakers are on.
Hope you get to solve the problem soon. Good luck!!

That sounds like the degaussing circuit in operation to me. Perhaps the degauss voltage is staying on the coil. It's quite normal for the 'ping' noise and then the colours start to unscramble as the screen is demagnetised, but if your colours stay scrambled, then I would think possibly the auto-degauss isn't working properly.
Whatever it is, it's probably not cost-effective to get it repaired, it'll be cheaper to get another monitor.

you need to use a process of elimination by changing one varible at a time...... try a different monitor-does that cure it y/n, if no then try another graphics card-does that cure it y/n if no then it needs to be looked at physically cos i can't and neither could anyone else diagnose over the internet i don't think(maybe wrong) if one of the two steps earlier cured the problem then you have found the cause HOORAY merry xmas

there are too many opportunities to probable guess at what it quite is. in case you potential it off thoroughly then initiate the workstation right this is the right sequence: - computing gadget will "placed up" - black show screen with white textual content (if it maintains to be in this show screen then there is something incorrect with BIOS placing or hardware) - residing house windows will initiate - you will see residing house windows emblem with progression bar - if it quite is the place it freezes, then there is something incorrect with residing house windows installation - once you log into residing house windows, in case you get the show screen defined right here, reliable success as that's various various issues. I advise you music backwards with the element you final put in, hardware or utility and get rid of or uninstall each and each till you have bumped off the undertaking. in case you do no longer comprehend what you're doing seek for professional help.

If u have a spare or borrow from your friend u can identify if your graphic card has problem. I guess a power fluctuation is a problem and also check your power cable size.
