Going to the county will not get you a "state" certified copy. You can go to or call or access on the Internet - your State Department (for me I would go to the state of Ohio building in downtown Cleveland). You cannot get a state certified copy for the county you can only get a county certified copy.

In the county you were born in, go to the county medical office. There is a fee so make sure you bring some cash. ($15 - $25)

Write to the office of Vital Records of your state. Go online to see their fees etc...send the fee with your written request and any documentation that they may need - you can give em a call too. Shouldnt take to long.
