I actually think the significance of telling Peter to wipe his sword was almost a gentle instruction from Aslan to Peter on how to be the High King of Narnia. In not so many words, Aslan is telling Peter that by taking on this new role, he also must be responsible for his actions and their consequences.
Wiping one's sword is an essential part of caring for the weapons that protect you, because blood is greatly damaging to a sword blade especially when it is left to dry -- the blade will be rendered useless because the dried blood can scratch the metal and or become something close to glue on your blade.
In all aspects of warfare, and codes of warriors and honor -- knights and kings always had to be in the very best of shape because you were defending your country and your people. When as a warrior, you don't wipe your blade, then it could very easily be taken to mean that you also aren't taking care of what it is you're protecting by virtue of you not being in the best possible state of readiness as a fighter.
This is what I think, anyway. :)

The logical reason is to clean the sword. But another reason is that Aslan is about to knight Peter. In the traditional knighting ceremony, a clean sword is used. It could be symbolic of the purity of Peter's heart and soul in the eyes of God, because he killed the wolf to protect his sisters.

From a purely practical standpoint, a sword must be cleaned as soon as possible after use because blood is mostly water, and the sword can rust. A bloody, rusty sword won't slide out of the scabbard easily, and that could spell the difference between life and death.

Probably because it would make the sword look better, after all they don't want a blood-coated blade...I don't know haha
Oh, wait, I do know, I don't know if this is the reason though
Blood is supposed to be really bad for a sword blade, so they try to get rid of it as soon as possible.
I love the book and the movie. Heart heart heart! Happy Holidays!

To clean it, I'd imagine. You're supposed to clean blood off of a sword before resheathing it.

It was not noble blood, but unclean. And as the violence was past, so were the traces of it to be removed.
