I think the best kind of metal is epic power metal like Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Rhapsody.
Or maybe I like Folk metal better, like Falkenbach, Finntroll, Einsiferum
As far as the best band goes, I think that's a little too complicated.
Of course everyone's going to say it's Metallica but that's just because they're so bloody popular that everyone who doesn't know anything about metal knows about Metallica.
The "best" metal band would simply be he one with the best musical composing, the best musical playing and the best lyrics.
Going by that criteria I'm going to say that Blind Guardian is the best.
But of course, that's leaving out a lot of really good bands.
There's so many styles and subgenres of metal that I think it's impossible to say what one band is the best of them all. Some of the styles are just so different they don't compare.
I think you probably could pick a single "best" band for each subgenre, though.

It depends on what kind of heavy metal. I can give the best five heavy metal albums of all time though;
1. Paranoid: Black Sabbath
2. Master of Puppets: Metallica
3. Reign In Blood: Slayer (caution: you need to listen several times before you are amazed by the speed on drums and guitar)
4. I have a hard time calling System of a Down heavy metal, but their album Mezmerize/Hypnotize is amazing.
5. And Justice For All...: Metallica (this one has some horrible production, but it is, in my opinion, Metallica's best and underrated work.)

depends. Black Sabbath of course. best thrash band i would say Megadeth. I personal dont like Metallica anymore. there just sellouts. i use to be a huge fan. but i saw how they really are. i dont care for them. what i hate is how Megadeth doesnt get enough credit. If u ask me i say Megadeth is way better then Metallica. message me if u choose to talk more about this.

There is so many metal bands, so many styles of metal I enjoy (not the new wanna be metal crap). It is hard to break it down to one. Hum...GraveDigger, Therion, Demons and Wizards, Marduk, Vintersorg, Nighwish, October Tide.....ok I'll shut up

This depends on just how metal you mean.
I insist on Black Sabbath.
However I'll give a nod to early Metallica and Kreator (b/c they gave me a nightmare the first time I heard them, that's some scary sheight)

I'm not a huge fan, but Black Sabbath started it all, like it or not. And black metal is for puszy little ******** that wear make-up and panties. Screaming like a bitchh ain't cool.
