No, it's not true.
The Mayans did practice human sacrifice, but not as depicted in the movie.
You can find several good books on the Mayan civiliazation in the public library. Please don't trust everything you read on the internet about this.

All man can do is guess and Mel Gibson's movie is about as real as the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. We think we are so very smart these days and we actually know nothing but what some guy with a PhD has concluded and because he is called Doctor it must be the truth. Again, we know nothing about these people except what they left for the world to see and find. It's kinda like the old joke about the toilet we use today. Sometime in the future someone might conclude this was a Throne that we sat on and used to Worship our sun gods.

Yes, it is believed to be true. "Sacrifice was one of the main rituals performed in honor of the gods in which the shaman oversaw. The ceremony could range anywhere from offerings of food to the presentation of valuables to the practice of human sacrifice. These offerings typically varied in terms of the importance of the urgency of the occasion."

No and neither was the Passion. How could the apocalypse be true no one was there. The fact that there were Maya was true. Just like the fact that there was Jews in the Passion. xx

The indian cultures in the Americas did indeed sacrifice humans from the top of those pyramids.
But Apocalypto is a MOVIE. 99% of it is Hollywood imagination.

it is a depiction of events as recorded on mayan ruins. the story is not true but based on historical accounts of the civilization. for anyone who says otherwise, well pick up a book.
and for mel bashers, get over yourselves. he is human and his contribution to entertainment should stand as monument to his accomplishents, lest we forget Brave Heart and the lethal weapon movies.

IT ACTUALLY IS TRUE, I HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, BUT THE MAYAN AS WELL AS THE AZTECS USED TO SACRIFICE HUMAN BODIES AS WELL AS PARTS TO THEIR GODS AS A FORM OF GRATITUDE. PRETTY WEIRD BUT THAT'S HOW IT WENT. SOMETIMES EVEN CHILDREN, DEPENDS WHAT THEY WANTED OR NEEDED.
