Would this be in relation to Mt Everest.One expedition the weather was so treacherous that it is believed one climber became so disoriented,that he wandered off and fell into a crevice

Very possibly the onset of hypothermia. One of the symptoms of advanced hypothermia is confused thinking. It's also possible they left momentarily to find water/food,or set out markers; got disoriented in the storm and died a few meters from their caves.
Either explanation would explain their leaving equipment behind. Frankly, 7-9 days is a long time to survive without sufficient heat/food. It's highly unlikely anyone's survived.
