I don't like wearing glasses and I want to ask my mom to get contacts but she says they're just bad. She said they hurt, they are annoying, they are a hassle to put in and out, and that they are bad for your eyes. But I still hate wearing my glasses. Should I still get contacts even though my mom says their bad? What are some good things about contact lenses?

contacts make your eyes itchy and can be easy to lose.

Contacts do require some care and can't be left in all of the time. You'll still need glasses for those times when you have the contacts out to give your eyes a breather.

Also, they're not inexpensive. With glasses, you buy them and wear them. With contacts, there are choices. You can get disposable contacts, which you wear and throw away, or you can get standard contacts which you take out, clean and disinfect regularly. Either option is a lot more expensive than just wearing glasses.

That said, you and your mom might want to take a look at the Contact Lens FAQ below and then discuss it. Maybe you could get fitted for a trial pair and see how it goes.

They are convenient and comfortable. I usually can't even tell I'm wearing mine. The only thing for me is that I have a stigmatism in my right eye. The contacts are weighted, so if it gets out of place it can be irritating cuz my vision becomes blurry. They are not hard to put in or take out. You'll get so used to it you won't even need a mirror. Plus you can see in all directions, unlike glasses when you look to the sides or up and down. Plus glasses get smudged/dirty easily. That's annoying!! You don't have to worry about that with contacts. The only thing I wouldn't do is wear my contacts to bed. I take them out every night.

Contacts do not hurt, unless they get stuck in the top of your eye. It doesn't happen to me very often enough to worry about it. They're not "good" or "bad" for your eyes. I personally find more good things come out of having contacts than bad, though. Some of those things include:

Not having glasses fog up when you walk into a warm room after you've been out in the cold.
Being able to see when you go swimming.
Being able to wear headphones/headbands/etc. more comfortably.
Having peripheral vision.
Not having to go in to have your glasses adjusted every two effing weeks because they are bent up.
Not having to worry about green nosepieces.

That's just some benefits of wearing contacts.

there's nothing at all wrong with contacts as far as i'm concerned. the good aspects are that they're convenient, you can try dif. eye colors, they're not uncomfortable, they're easy to put in, they're better for your eyes than glasses are, and you can see with your entire eye (unlike with glasses where you can't see if you look up since they can't cover the whole thing like contacts do)
