This is the older model, about the size of a cigarrette lighter. I have never had one and I have had someone tell me they take batteries and someone else tell me they can be charged through the USB port in my computer. Yet they sell a charger for this at the store. I don't want my son to open this up on Christmas morning and not be able to use it.

Pull the bottom cap off and plug it into your computer's USB port. It will automatically begin charging whether or not you have iTunes.

There are two ways. First, take the cap off the USB end of the Shuffle.

1. Get a wall (AC) charger which has a USB socket. Find them at Walmart or Kmart or anyplace that sells MP3 accessories. You can also get a car charger with an USB socket.

The answerer who suggested using the broad, flat charger is thinking of either the older full sized iPods, or the iPod Nano. Those take that kind of adapter... the Shuffle only charges in a USB port.

2. Load iTunes onto your computer and then charge the Shuffle in the USB port. My experience has been that the iPods won't charge in a computer without iTunes already started. (especially the older iPods). ITunes is a free download from the Apple.com website.

It should have come with a long, white cord that is squarish on the end. If it doesn't, you can probably buy one, but it should have come with one. It charges thru the USB port, just stick it in and it charges. Yup yup. If you have problems, go to the itunes website and their might be tips there.

You can charge it from hooking it up to the computer. It is nice to have a charger though.

Plug it into your home computer and that charges it for you.
