I need two monologues, comedic and a dramatic, that are 1 to 2 minutes long each. It needs to be from age 16- early 20's, contemporary. I know that i should find my own but if any body can give me plays to read so i can cut one that would be great... i really don't want movie monologues and i don't want a common monologue that every one uses. It's for my theatre class as well as auditions. Thanks to all who answer!

Try reading the play "Like A Virgin" There's a monologue in there that I think would fit perfectly, it's about a girl who has terminal cancer, relatively modern set in the 80's/90's, the most powerful speech in this one I believe is where she opens up to her friend about what she's feeling how she knows she's dying and that she lied and she's going to die a virgin, even if you don't want to use it give it a read it's a really moving play :)! Hope this helps!

There's a lovely piece in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" where Francie says "Oh I want to hold it all. I want to hold the way the night is-cold without wind. And the way the stars are so near and shiny. I want to hold all of it tight until it hollers "Let me go, let me go""...etc. OR a piece from "To Make a Dragon Move: From the Diary of an Anorexic. (By Pamela White Hadas) Anorexic Woman : "I have rules and plenty. Some things I don't touch. I'm king of my body now. Who needs a mother-a food machine, those miles and miles of guts! Once upon a time I confess I was fat-gross. Gross belly, gross a$$, no bones showing at all. Now I say "No thank you," a person in my own right, and no poor loser. I smile at her plate of brownies. "Make it disappear," she used to say, "Join the clean plate club." ..... etc

I would say for something funny go for a bit from LAUGHING WILD by CHRIS DURANG. This is perhaps the funniest play in the English language and most of it is female monologue.

For something tragic/dramatic, I would go for something from THE CLEAN HOUSE by SARAH RUHL. It's magnificent and poignant. There are four major female characters, all of whom are captivating in different ways.
