I will be moving out as soon as I get accepted to colleges. I have never moved out before and I was wondering how to find an apt. Where do I look? What procedures should I expect? How long is the process? How much paper work? etc.

Thanks!

start with newspapers in the toen you're looking to move into.
Also, college bulletin boards often have folks looking for roomies.
Another great link is

I doubt you're from Rochester, so change the site to the closest possible location...

you can have the right one in a day. , provided you find the right one. you ll want one somewhat close to school so that ups the rent a little. figure utility deposits or a cosigner for that. most renter s want a security deposit-first and last months rent usually. as leases go, if you can do a six month or a yr. your doing good. if you do it month by month they re liable to look at you as a tear it up and leave sort of person. dont jump at the first one you find, look at a few, make sure you d be comfortable in it and have plenty of space. if you find one you like and it needs some repairs- if your handy with tools, you might be able to fix it up with the costs+labor deducted from your rent in agreement with the landlord. for example: i lived in this one place almost rent free for almost a yr and 1/2 just by doing odd jobs like painting other properties, cutting grass, basic maintenance on their other places. rule of thumb- it s cheaper to have a tenant do it than hire a contractor. hope this helps

Look in the newspaper, find some in your price range. Depending on where you live you might get a month free if you sign a six month lease. Expect to pay some sort of damage deposit, and in some locations, first and last months rent will be charged (move to a cheaper place if they do that :-))/.

Although there are many apartment rental websites, the best selection will be found in your local newspaper classified ads. Many landlords require that you fill out a simple rental application and some will actually run a criminal background and credit check on you. The rental process can usually be completed in one day.

Good luck with your new apartment.
