Far sighted people have to accommodate even to look at infinity. And have to accommodate a lot more to look at close range, perhaps beyond the accommodation limit, so very near objects will be fuzzy. Near sighted people will not be able to accommodate for infinity -- distant objects will be out of focus.
An optometrist will be able to tell you for sure, as they will use lenses to see if you could accommodate beyond infinity (far sighted people would still be able to see clearly at infinity with a moderate amount of convergent lenses).
I am far sighted, but only found out in my 20's, when working on those aircraft plans with 1/100 of an inch accuracy all day long and having headaches as a result.

I'd say see an optician, but but by the sounds of things you're long sighted (DON'T take this as gospel, though).
How far away was your hand when you looked at it before posting this question?
Some people have one short-sighted eye, one long-sighted. Best way to find out = optician

you should go get your eyes checked. If you have a problem seeing distance than you are short sighted. I you have a problem seeing things close up than you are far sighted.
If you don't have a problem seeing either than your eyes are probably ok.
