I'm going to start out with a clue and some examples. I'll give you a few minutes and then come back with more. I usually rain all over this kind of question but you may actually have no access to this information.

Clue: Why are our ears and those of other animals located on opposite sides of our head and pointed slightly towards the front?

Examples: How do bats and dolphins find their prey when they have such poor vision?

I haven't seen any further response from you so the rest of the answer is "echo location". Because of the positioning of the ears, the brain is able to distinguish from which side of the head and even whether from in front or behind a sound originates. This has to do with the speed of sound and the ability of the brain to process this information without our active participation. Vision actually interferes with this function which explains why visually impaired people are so much better at this than us ordinary folk.

Hope this answers your question.

Because you "hear" sound you don't see sound. You would hear what direction it was coming from.
