the whites will look "dingy" or gray. separate them into 2 loads. If you must wash them together - use "cold" water and cold rinse

There is a great product out there for such a case! It's called color catchers! They're in the laundry aisle at the supermarket and they work great! You can put a red sock in with your whites and you'd never know it was there! Or, if you've made a mistake and mixed your colors without using a Color Catcher you can try to brighten you clothes back up by using Color Safe Bleach. This special "bleach" is safe for colored fabrics and will work most of the time. Best of luck!

Your whites will become dingy. Your colors will bleed on each other and the whites, lelaving pink and blue marks. For some things, like towels, who cares? But for clothes? At least separate out your light and dark colors!

If you have already washed these clothes several times, they aren't going to bleed into the whites anymore, but the whites will still get dingy because you aren't using bleach.

Ive been washing whites and darks together for YEARS; only problem is when you get something new in a dark color, you should wash it separately for a few times until no more color 'bleeds' but after that, mix away!!!!!!!

yes. color from the dark will run into the whites, causing discoloration to your whites making them colorful or a dingy gray
