I've searched a lot of places and I can find lots of things that he did that required math but not anything detailing what he did to advance math. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the input so far. He's listed as a famous mathematician and yet all I can find are how he applied math, not actually advanced math with theory, proofs, etc. So I will continue to search for additional details myself but I still have hope that someone there here at answers can point me to some more concrete anwers.

when we talk about math, we sometimes mix it up with science because both sujects are relatively related. Leonardo did contribute several war inventions (fly machine, tank, and several other ancient machine) to science. Think outside of the box now... In a fly machine, he needed to calculate the dynamic and movement of the wind to test his airplane. Although he failed to accomplish his dream. I'm guessing, scientific models was his contribution to math and science.

I believe he was the one who figured out the mathematical proportions of each part of the body to each other. Look up the "Vitruvian Man" to find out the specifics of it.
