Life is rough sometimes.

For anyone who has ever pulled through a challenging time... how did you keep from just "giving up"? Not in the sense of offing yourself, but in the sense of holding on to your dreams.

Because, not giving up, is a part of knowing you are alive.

Yes, I would wholeheartedly agree with your statement that life is rough sometimes. I think for me personally there are dreams that I continue to focus on and others I've had to let go or maybe revise.

I would recommend looking at what you are good at and what you are passionate about. If these fit in with your dreams for the future, don't give up. Sometimes our dreams are fulfilled in a much better way than we could have ever imagined, and sometimes we have to experience the pain and challenge of pushing on to understand and appreciate the fulfillment.

If it's alright, I want to share a recent experience of my sister-in-law. She was about two-thirds of the way through her paramedics' training. She was not getting much encouragement from the people she was doing trainings with, and some even told her she was cut out to do it. She came over so discouraged, and we talked about how she loves helping people, is good at calmly figuring things out, and I believe is made for this job.

So she found a paramedic who would be honest and help her out with the areas in which she was weak. Within a month she was getting compliments from the same supervisors who said she wasn't cut out for it. She has since completed the program, finished near the top of her class, and is working as a paramedic.

So don't give up, but at the same time don't be afraid to adjust as needed.

Hope this helps, and sorry for the long answer.

For me it was the realization that i want to be relevant, i want to matter to the world, and I want people to recognize me as a valuable member of society.
Giving up is too easy. I did it for a while so I know.
Actually i called myself trying to be a writer, figuring if i let go of the world and dove into myself i would somehow figure out how to control all the aspects of my reality...BORING!
It wasn't till i hit rock bottom emotionally, physically, financially, and spiritually that I looked around and saw that i was missing out on life and the abundance of adventures and opportunities it provides.
So wisely I sought help.
Once my mood was stabilized I got training in the tech field, got a good job, decided I could do even better, entered art school, applied for a job with the Dept. of Jostice, got it and now i'm just working and going to school full time trying to improve every aspect of my life - NOT just control it.
I still have a lot of work to do on myself, and I do sometimes lose track of my sense of ambition, but when that hapens I start focusing on smaller goals, so that the big ones are'nt so scary.
I want love, I want the recognition and respect of my peers, I want financial security, and none of this is going to walk up my front steps, bang on my door and demand to be let in.
Bottom line, and I think it's been said already, get passionate about something you are good at and turn it into a career. That way work is fun, and you feel good when you wake up in the morning because you get to do what you really want to do, and get paid.
Also important is the fact the i'm getting myself ready to meet the love of my life and really feel like i deserve her, and she deserves me. I'm so ready to breed I could burst.
Hope these ramblings helped,
C-ya

Dreams that aim to a "long distance" of time may not allow us to see everyday small dreams that become reality, eg. going out for a drink with your friend(s), enjoying a good conversation, a movie, a nice meal or just a walk. It is also important to look yourself in the mirror from time to time and feel good about who you are, or perhaps who you came out to be-because after all, what you see in the reflection is your real self;people around you love you just for this, and not for whatever you might wanna be in the future.Start appreciating the things that you have and that you are.And all the reasons to keep you going will automatically appear in front of you as you notice that they were always there...

Life brings trouble to us all.
My advice: Check out some people who really have it bad, and then check out more of them, hear their stories, and thank God you don't have it that bad. Thank God for all you do have. A man once told me that if you have a roof over your head, food to eat, and clothes to wear, you have nothing to worry about. Pretty good statement.
Sit down, then, and figure out what you really want out of life. When you've got that figured out, figure out steps to that goal, and get going.
It's much, much better to try and fail than to give up and never try at all. Plus, even if you try and fail, you can always try again.
The reason to keep going is that some of life's greatest treasures may be just around the corner, and often are!

The realization that I am ultimately responsible for my own happiness, and that nobody else, higher powers included, was going to help me.

Now, I understand that there is a balance in the universe, and that nothing is permanent. Therefore, success and happiness are to be enjoyed to the fullest, and knowing that bad times will inevitably end lets me persevere.

Honey, I've been through hard time twice. Once was when I lost most of my family in the war and was living in a foreign land without job and with language barrier at the age of 19; the other was when I lost my children to my ex-husband. There is no greatest pain then to loose your children - missing the time that they need you most in their teens.; left without warning and without a job. If you don't have faith - it will be a lot harder. For someone like me with no family around - you tend to talk to God a lot. Faith keeps you going. If one dream dies, dream another dream! One door may be closed, but God will open another door for you.

Best wishes!

To achieve a goal. In life you give yourself a purpose and to pursue it and fulfill that purpose you have to set goals and acheive them. Eventually self satisfaction dependingon what satisfies an individal. If you believe in the afterlife...salvation or the best condition possible in your afterlfe belief is any.

I quote Nietzsche on this one: "That which does not kill me can only make me stronger." Life is struggle. Life is challenge. Without these things we'd maintain the mentality of a 2 year-old

You need to have something to live for. I went through a rough phase back in 7th grade, and I was obsessed with the band AFI. If it weren't for AFI, I probably wouldn't be here right now.
