Back in the 80's when Vince told him to use that gimmick and he became over with the fans. He also has one of the longest WWE title reigns in history and he is a part of some of the most infamous matches in wrestling history like with Andre the Giant, Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior. His popularity was going down when he joined WCW but later when he formed nWo he was more over than ever and that is how he became such a jack@$$ and ruined a billion dollar company. It is true that Hulk Hogan had a hand in making Wrestling what it is today but he just had a hand and he make wrestling a franchise single handedly.

It's all genetic from Hulk Hogan being a wrestler.
