i look at the universe and life as something different from most people.i dont believe in any supreme being, even though i was born into a christian family,i didnt really go to church.i dont even remember my childhood really, and i think this is an important part of the reason why i am how i am today. when i look at myself in the mirror i dont see myself as "me", i see myself as just a human in the universe, when i look at my hand and move it,i think about the messages my brain is sending to my hand to make it move and i think about my veins and blood running through it which is keeping me alive. i just look at life in terms of "science". i see that religion and government are totally man-made and are not really important when i think about it.as i sit down here now, typing this,i thihnk about myself in the UNIVERSE.and that the world is going on beyond my present vision.and RIGHT NOW there are things goin on in OTHER SOLAR SYSTEMS and galaxies that could hold civilizations.RIGHT NOW.sigh

If you're looking for praise for your uniqueness you're not going to get it. Besides the fact that none of this is any new or groundbreaking insight or point of view - all I get from it is that you're lonely and seeking some sort of affirmation.

Stephen Hawking is a great mind because his theories are based on a thorough understanding of physics - which includes a lot of math and hard work. No one simply spawns new theories based on emotion, they come from countless hours of research, experiment, and thought.

At this point in time it is near impossible to have a unique and groundbreaking idea - you're just not opening your eyes if you think someone hasn't been there before you. New ideas are ones which are more concise and more thoroughly explain the universe - they are not new ways to look at things, just more specific.

I suggest you read up on physics, philosophy, and history.

Hi. Do not feel alone. Many people (but not the majority) sometimes have the same feeling. It is based on a certain detachment that comes with intelligence and partial understanding. Have you ever just stopped where you are for a minute and felt yourself stare at a finger or seashell or leaf in wonder? Probably. What you feel is the awareness of aloneness. It is not a bad thing and in a way is really wonderful. Do you thing a dog feels this way? No. A rock? Flower? Less aware human? No, no, no. Enjoy your awareness, wonder at the night sky, look at a tree and realize that each branch is also a tree. The world is magnificent!

I feel the same too, I base everything on science.
In the grand scale of things we humans are less than bacteria on a universal type of level.
I think it's funny how people need to believe in something, they use religion for example as a comfort blanket.
How I see religion is, it's a way to control people, to give people a sense of something greater out there.
There is no afterlife, there is no god, we are just one of a googleplex of other species in the universe, we may be the top of the food chain on our planet but there's a extreme probablity that our intelligence and importance is zilch compared to other species.
We are just the result of evolution, do you think there was an afterlife when we were creeping out of the primordial ooze as bacteria?
If people want to cling to that to give them security and meaning then I'm happy to let them get on with it, I believe in what I believe in, this may seem like I'm a doombringer but I come to terms with what we are long ago and I'm extremely happy with life.
There is also a good possibility that superior races were on Earth before us, there has been four mass extinctions afterall.
I think everyone just needs to sit down and have a think about what's really going on and come to their own conclusions.
I see so many human sheep nowadays taking for granted what they've been brain washed into believing, I question everything, including myself, I put great thought into why I do the things I do autonomously and I feel I've been enlightened.
I truly do think for myself!
So the point here people is don't be a sheep, don't be brain washed by the media and people around ya, work things out for yourself!
This is just what I believe in, I believe in myself!

You're not.

And you might be wrong. ^_^

Scientificly speaking, there is no proof that anything exists at all. There is no proof that you even exist from my perspective. All things are filtered through the mind and perception, you cannot experince anything outside of that and if your perception were somehow being fooled, you'd never know it.

That's hardly a useful way of thinking, of course and doesn't change your existance in anyway. Just a thought!

Anyhow, read some stuff by a guy named Kurt Vonnegut, you'd probably like him.

In the end, there are plenty of people who's perception of themselves, the universe and their place in it isn't all that different from yours.

I do not mean to be insulting, but I would suggest that your feeling of being seperate and the only one of your kind is less a matter of fact than it is a matter of your desire to differentiate yourself from others. That you are completely unique in all humanity, except your self-espoused association with great minds.

It's really sort of egotistical of you and I think you just feel set appart from others and you want that 'appartness' to also mean 'above'.

Again, I am not criticising, I have had similar thought processes occour to me. I may be wrong too, I certianly don't know you, only myself and how I relate to what you've said. But.. if you have no problem with seperating logical possibilitys of the universe from your own desires and modivations and ultimately your own human failability, you shouldn't have much trouble analyzing yourself and deciding for yourself weather my analysis is right or wrong.

It's important to be aware of it, if I'm right. Simply being different and associating yourself with other great minds won't cause you to do great things. They all had to work hard and if you hope to acheive anything like Stephen Hawking, you will have to work hard too.

whoa-that's some pretty heavy duty stuff there. I was gonna answer it -- but it would only be words on a screen that eyeballs would be looking at and brains would be processing the thoughts and those thoughts would only be transferred to other civilizations in another solar system and no humans would ever really be impacted by the words I typed-so never mind.

You are now alone, far from it. Read what Richard Dawkins has to say about it. Join one of the Yahoo discussion group on Secular Humanism or other Bright or skeptic groups and see for yourself. There are more of us than you apparently think, but we are not organized like religious groups are, and thus not as visible.

he's between the Rev Einsteins umpteen sock puppet expenses. they arrive out in his help, declaring detrimental good wing crap like "Yeah atheists won't be able to manage the truth" or "I have were given 3 college tiers and that i'm a creationist" or some quote from a survey from 1820 or a catalogue of little regularly occurring technological knowledge experts from u . s . a . who say they are creationists

While I do believe in a supreme being, I understand exactly what you mean. You're detached from thinking about life in a single particular human perspective. Your attachment is to life in and of itself, no matter what form it takes. You aren't as alone as you may think in this feeling.
