My ONE parent always was so kind to let me know what I had coming... Oh! I friggen remember that torture WELL!

Can't say I did. I got beaten once or twice only and no with prelude to it. Wow, that would have been torture.
Taking the hint from Super Nanny, I always (or almost always) give a notice before before I punish my child so she can stop doing whatever it is she is doing. It really works for best.

I got spanked twice. It happened fast with little talking before.

my brother D and i would sneak into the kitchen ...and take small frying pans out of the cupboard and put them down the backs of our pants (while waiting for our father to get home after dinner ) our mother use to scare the s h i t out of us and say "you are so gonna get it!....wait till your father gets home"
of course he never really ever spanked us even once......
