intel for programming, amd for gaming.
but average users wont notice anything. get intel, more power(overall)

Yes the post above said it well. I prefer AMD but I am a gamer. They both pack a load of power and right now Intel might have the upper edge but AMD is only a tiny bit below them. If your after gaming AMD wins.
P.S Intel is only winning because AMD has not released there next series of chips yet when Intel has.

There is no winner. Intel is used widely in the corporate world while AMD is used in the home user and small business world. Intel just has a bigger foot printer.
It also depends upon which processor an application is designed for.

i prefer AMD, because they are typically cheaper and is better for home use/gaming. intel i think, is mostly for corporet use. AMD typically runs hotter, but that shouldn't be a problem with a decent CPU cooling fan.
