I think you are mistaking being blunt and to the point for being mean. I'm from Texas and when driving truck OTR never found the people from Indiana mean. They are a lot more blunt and to the point vs people from Texas being more polite in what the way they say things.

Utah. The highest use of anti-depressants and pain medication per person especially among women in the US. I was born there. when I visit, everyone is outwardly polite, but once you get to know them a little: whew..............
The people are very righteous in their disdain of others. (After all this is the state that can not seem to reel in polygamist cults that engage in child abuse and under age marriage.)
(I may get reported for this statement but I will throw caution to the wind!)

I have been to many states and feel that Arizona has the rudest people I have ever met. Only when the snowbirds head down does it improve, but of course they are from up north so that tells ya something.

No place home!

I have a friend who moved his family to the Seattle area because he couldn't stand the people in CT, and didn't want to subject his two young sons to all the jerks there. He's much happier in WA.

I don't know, but I've heard it has to be a northern state.( Although, some of my relatives right here in Texas are pretty friggin' mean !)

I haven't been very many places, but I'd have to say Ohio. I'm from the South. I've been west, that was ok, but Ohio was the easternmost and northernmost place I've been. Not hospitable!
