I am an avid Tiger fan, so in my heart 1984 was the best...BUT...I felt that the 2001 Series, Arizona beating the Yankees in 7 had to be the absolute best I've ever witnessed, especially the 9th inning of Game 7. To this day, that is the only loss Mariano Rivera, a lock for the HOF, has ever suffered...and it was due to his throwing error, and Luis Gonzalez's bloop single.

The 2001 World Series with the Yankees and Diamondbacks, even though the Yankees lost (I'm a big Yankee fan) The comebacks in game 4 and 5, and a great game 7.

1975. The Big Red Machine with Hall of Famers Johnny Bench, Tony Perez and Joe Morgan with great players like Pete Rose, Dave Concepcion, George Foster and Ken Griffey Sr. managed by Hall of Famer Sparky Anderson beat the Red Sox with Hall of Famers Carlton Fisk and Carl Yastrzemski in 7 games. Sox also had Fred Lynn, Dwight Evans, Rico Petrocelli and RIck Burelson with Luis Tiant on the mound. The great controversy of whether Ed Armbrister interfered with Fisk, Tiant's brilliant pitching. The great Game 6 comeback by the Red Sox where Bernie Carbo (a former Red) hit a pinch hit three run homer to tie the game and Carloton Fisk hit the classic game winner, down the line over the Green Monster. Game 7 was decided in the 9th inning by a Joe Morgan single.
1991 was great between the Twiins and the beginning of the Braves great run. Puckett's Game 6 homer was reminiscent of Fisk's. Jack Morris and John Smoltz locked into a great pitchers duel in Game 7.
2001 The Yankees hit so many big home runs in that series (especially off of Byung Hun Kim) Jeter, Martinez, Brosius. Clemens and Schilling pithced great in Game 7 and the Diamondbacks won it in the bottom of the ninth against the greatest reliever in baseball history.

2001 WS. The whole series was intense and such a great story-line. It was like David and Goliath. Here you had the relativily new D-Backs and the powerhouse Yankees with great pitching and timely hitting. The way it ended was classic, bottom of the 9th and Gonzo hits a bloop over a drawn in Jeter's head to win it all.
One of the best underdog stories, ever.

As much as I hate to admit it the 1991 series with the Twins. The Twins beat my Braves in 7 games. Kirby is one of the most underrated players ever. I love the Braves but the Twins are my favorite AL team. You can't beat that series.

1975, Reds over the Red Sox in seven.
Other great series (including the pre-TV and pre-ESPN eras) include 1912 (Red Sox over Giants 4-3), 1924 (Senators over Giants 4-3), 1952 (Yanks over Dodgers in seven), 1960 (Pirates over Yankees in 7), 1962 (Yankees over Giants in 7), 1971(Pirates over Orioles in 7), 1985 (Royals over Cardinals in 7), (1986 Mets over Red Sox 4-3) and 1991 (Twins over Braves in 7).
But the 1975 Series was the best ever.
(I'm not talking here as a fan of any particular team, I'm just listing the best series ever played, period...I'm not going to call some world series which my team won the best ever, simply because my team won it... I'm talking about, for a BASEBALL fan, which ones would be the best to go back and watch, if we could).

Anytime the Cardinals won. The 1926 WS ended rather excitingly when Bob O'Farrel threw to second baseman Rogers Hornsby to tag out Babe Ruth. He was attempting to steal second. That was the final out. That had to be exciting. 2006 about gave me a heart attack, although moreso the NLCS. What a great year.
