Opossums get pregnant like any other animal. Being a marsupial, the babies are very very small when they are born and then they crawl up to the mothers pouch where they will live for quite some time until they are old enough to fend for themselves.

Adding to what the first poster said, the babies also will latch on to momma and ride around with her. In the pouch is where her nipples are at nice and cozy...
BTW I hear they make great pets?
