The north freed the slaves as a means to destroy the upstart southern state's economy. They really didn't care about the morality or immorality of salvery or abuse of human rights. The black man was not even thought of as a man. The white man thought of the black man as an intelligent animal, so felt they had no rights and needed none. I'm not saying this to start a fight or insult anyone. Just pointing out the true tactics in amending the constitution to outlaw slavery.

well, I'm not going to write your essay for you, i will say this...
before, during and after the civil war, there was many northerners who harbored racial prejudices. In 1863, there was a draft riot in NYC. The rioters hung, bludgeoned...basically murdered many black citizens.
