I believe that it is because Brazil, being a poor nation with large areas of slums and poverty stricken families living on the streets often have few ways of entertaining themselves, the simplest way being to gather in a group and play a game of football. This gets the game into their minds from an early age, and because of the vast number of people in these slums, it its also widespread. The can also see their heroes on television or listen to them on the radio (people will pay a weeks wages just to buy a tv set to watch them), and naturally they all want to emulate them. This creates an extremely high level of competition, as good players go to good teams, get more money to get them out of the slums. However let it also be noted that this creates an inherent selfishness, Brazilian players are noted for their flair not for their teamwork, you will find a lot of good tricksters and one man shows, but rarely will a Brazilian team act as a team, moments of personal brilliance are Brazil's trademark.

They the only teams that take this totally meaningless competition seriously. It exists only to make money and give FIFA officials yet another free holiday.
I mean..Sydney FC are the fifth best team in the entire world????!!!! Please, lets get real!
