Why does australia have summer in winter? wouldnt it be better if they had winter when we do?

Why don't they just have it at the same time as us? Because that seems weird that in australia they are having summer in winter. I have often been wondering this because I was told this by my friend that australia has summer in december, but it should be winter in december!
