Why don't they just have it at the same time as us? Because that seems weird that in australia they are having summer in winter. I have often been wondering this because I was told this by my friend that australia has summer in december, but it should be winter in december!

You say that like they have a choice. Because of the Earth's rotation, when the Northern Hemisphere is pointed towards the sun the Southern Hemisphere is pointed away, and vice versa. Ever think that maybe they think it's weird that we have winter in December?

Seasons are caused by the earths tilt on its axis and the earths position in its orbit around the sun. In June (northern summer) the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun and the southern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun. We in the northern hemisphere recieve more sunlight and warmth and have warmer temperatures while the southern hemisphere recieves less light and warmth and has lower temperatures. In December the northern hemisphere is tilted away while the southern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun and the north has winter while the south has summer.

Southern hemisphere seasons are opposite to northern hemisphere seasons. Hey, don't blame me - blame the sun, the earth and their relative motions through the skies.

Austrailia is located in the Southern Hemisphere so their seasons should be opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere. Although it seems odd to us, it is perfectly normal for them.
