I use astronomy.com, but I suppose you've already checked that out. Good choice, to plan to look at the planets. That's what refractors are best at.

Astronomy & the S&T are great places to start.
Also, check out the Astronomical League - they can help you find a local club, where you can learn HOW to use the scope.

Unless you have a very expensive scope, your best chances are to see the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn.

Saturn comes out from the east starting 9pm, and rising sooner each day.

Jupiter comes out at 5am. No moon.
