I think most of the best south america football teams are underrated compare to their european counterparts. Sao Paolo (last year) and Internacional (yesterday) just proven that they can bested above the european best team, but nonetheless they are still not considered as the world best team in spite of their achievement.
Teams like Chelsea that has never had a chance to put their hand on the Champions cup yet, or even a mediocre team like Everton always has a better position in the world press attention and press attention means appreciations.

You can change the word "tree" with every south america football team and the world "fall" with "famous" you'll find the answer of your question.
