At first I was afraid the job might be boring, but now that I'm a couple years older I'm wondering if it really is so bad, aside from being a high-salary job in the civvy world.

I am Not a "Nuke" as we call them but i was in the Navy working with them. They have it pretty tough. A lot of stressful school-ing, a lot of training sessions and a lot of hard Qualifications to operate equipment and stand watches on ship. Even after you go through all that school-ification you still have to do quals on ship, and you usually have only a few weeks to complete each qual, its not a lot of time when you also have to stand watches and do workdays and you are out to sea. The average Nuke stands 7 hours of watch a day on top of a normal workday and an hour of training. They can get in MAJOR trouble if they fall behind on watch qualification losing money rank and responsibility.
They usually hates the life....overall i would only be a nuke for the bonuses they get and the work they can get when they get out.
Hope i helped, its a big decision and its up to you in the end if you got your sh*t straight do it.

I never made it to the fleet but I was studying at Goose Creek to be a Nuke MM and I warn you now the studies are no joke. Study your a$$ off. Good Luck!

Oh yeah to answer your question I've heard from my friends that stayed with the program that it can actually be fun. Not like flying a jet fun, but not like watching grass grow boring.
