I was at the grocery store the other night and I was looking for mushrooms in the produce section. I passed a woman and asked her did she know where they were, she didn't, but I found them. Anyway.... as I was in the checkout line she was three ahead of me, at the register and I noticed that the cashier was taking things off of her total. I got the woman's attention and quietly asked her if she was short and by how much. She was only short 3 dollars and change. I gladly made up the difference. I just felt really good about myself after I did this.

What was the last nice thing you did for a total stranger?

Wow, Jake... you certainly are a jerk, aren't you?
It wasn't about the 3 dollars... it was about helping someone just because I could and happened to be in the right place at the right time to do so.

I asked the question simply because it's Christmas time and time for being nice to people as we should all year. Instead you have to come along and act like an a*s. Good job!

I wonder if good intentions count. The most significant thing I planned to do for a complete stranger didn't end up happening, but I had seen this homeless man with a dog and some rubbermaid containers on a dolly (I assume these were holding his belongings) a few times in a commercial area close to where I live, and I decided to package up some stuff to give him. I bagged up some dog food for his pet, a new pair of heavy socks I had bought as part of a holiday gift for my dad, water bottles, some ham and cheese sandwiches and a bag of pretzels, then I decided to give him a twenty along with that because I didn't have much food in my house that wouldn't spoil. I went over to find him and give him the bag of stuff, but I couldn't find him. I kept the bag, minus the sandwiches, in my car for a while, but I haven't seen him since. I hope he didn't freeze to death.

I was on the bus and over heard this girl crying because she didn't have any money for baby formula to someone on the phone. So before I got off the bus I handed her $50.She looked at me like I was crazy. She asked me why I would want to help a total stranger and all I could think of was where would I be if no one ever helped me out when I needed it.I felt so good for the rest of the day.

At a gas station, this guy went up to me and asked if I could spare him a dollar or so to fill up gas. He needs to go back home but he ran out of gas. I gave him $5 and he was going to give me his cellphone number so he could pay me back but I said he doesn't need to. It felt good that I helped someone in need. I don't know if that guy was just lying to me but the thought of helping made me feel good about myself.
