I am a very active runner in high school. I've been running just about every single day since July and will continue until June. My Coach was telling me that the best way to deal with injuries and soreness is by taking Ice Bath's. Now I've taken then reguraly about 1 to 2 a week every single week. But I still seem to get injuries here and there. My Coach told me that I should take an Ice Bath everysingle day that I do some sort of physical activity.

I was wondering if taking an Ice Bath every day would be harmful in any way. I normally have the temperature between 47 and 53 degrees Ferenheit, and get in to my waist for about 20 minutes. If every day is too often, can you suggest an alternative plan for me to follow that would be more beneficial for my body?

You'll be fine with the ice baths. They are not going to hurt you. Don't worry about that. What you have to worry about are the actual injuries. You may need to alter your workouts. A good deal of injuries are caused by repetition and not allowing your body to recover. You have to stress your body to have it adapt, and therefore progress. I mean that is why you train, right? One of the most important aspects of progressive overload is recovery, so keep that in mind. Do you guys have a certified athletic trainer? Talk to him/her for some clarification of what I've written.

I would alternate it...icy one day and hot/bubbles the next.
I've never heard of someone taking icy baths more than once. When a person has an athletic injury, put ice on it, yes, but never ice on the bare skin. It can cause frost bite if it's left on enuff, and is not good for your skin or muscles to be so dirct with the ice. I would stop the icy baths all together, and do warm ones, or wear clothes when you have an icy one.

I don't think this is a good idea for you to be doing. Taking "ice baths" causes dramatic temperature changes in your body which is not healthy. Also, it can cause shock and blood clots.

I think your coach is a dufus. You're going to freeze your `nads. Ask a sports doctor.
