hi anyone who can help with my problem, the screen on my laptop is the problem, i can connect it to an external monitor and the display is fine but if i use the lcd screen its quite difficult to read , you can see all the stuff on the webpage and f you tilt the screen abit you can read the writing , what could be wrong? i have just had to replace the hard drive as that went duff, could this be any reason for it?

Well it could be that when you replaced the hard drive you forgot to redownload the video drivers. I would start there. http://www.driverguide.com has over 400,000 of them. There is also a way to select the video outgoing source by hitting most of the time the F10 key, though it does change with different manufacturers. This is also how you would go from the built on video to the s-video. Hope this helps

It sounds like your brightness and contrast are turned down. There should be an "Fn" key or similar and other corresponding keys with icons to adjust these settings. For IBM Thinkpads it's Fn + Home or End

This brightness problem could be related to the power/battery settings. Look for a battery icon in your system tray. At least for IBM Thinkpads you can configure the power options to adjust for the best battery life or best performance. You can even configure settings when the laptop is plugged into AC power.

Sometimes these settings get messed up and the display is dimmed to increase performance as a function of the software.

definately sounds like a driver issue to me, what display settings do you have set? what quality is the colours set to in display properties?
