First: our goal is solving for the variable "x" and let's keep "x" on one side:

Second: add x to both sides:

8 - x + x = 3x + x
8 = 4x

Third: divide everything by 4:

8/4 = 4x/4
2 = x, x = 2

8-x=3x
or,8=3x+x
or,4x=8
so x=8/4=2 Solved

8 - x = 3x.

The goal is always to get the variable to one side, so add x to both sides.

8 = 3x + x

Simplify on the right side.
8 = 4x

Now divide by 4.

2 = x

Hope that helps!
