About 13 million people. Biggest tribe in South Africa. They are therefore subject to the government of SA but also have a tribal king, Goodwill Zweletini. The traditional Zulu region is the province of Kwazulu-Natal, but many have moved to the province of Gauteng to work in the gold mines. Politically they are mostly represented by the Inkhata Freedom party of which dr. Mangosuthu Buthelezi is the leader. They emerged as a dominant tribe in the subregion in the early 1800's under the rule of Shaka, a fierce warrior king. Zulu is the biggest of SA's 9 official languages. They do have tribal courts, but, being part of South Africa, these are subject to the national judiciary system.

Zulu Government

The Zulu government system is a Kingdom.

The Zulu ancestors are the Nguni people who originated from the sub-equatorial Central-to-East African regions. The Zulu Kingdom was born from war. They are a warrior nation who basically invaded Southern Africa.

They were eventually defeated by the Xhosa and Boer people and limited to the confines of the Natal region (todat called KwaZulu-Natal). There is still much bitterness with the Zulu people (IFP) towards the Xhosa who now rule South Africa (the ANC).

The only member of parliament who had any say was ex-vice-president Jacob Zuma, but the Xhosa rulers found reason to eject him when his Zulu views started interefering with Xhosa governance.

There is much dispute to this, but digging deeper into the Zulu Kingdom reveals Jacob Zuma as the only spokesmen for King Goodwill Zwelithini. The Zulu is also represented by a political party called the IFP (Inkhata Freedom Party) under leadership of Mangasotho Buthelezi. Unfortunately the IFP have all but disappeared from the political arena as the ANC suppresses them.
