Most areas do not allow you to keep a wild Jaguar as a pet. Remember, it will not stay a baby so you might have better luck volunteering at a zoo or wildlife shelter. If you are serious, and local laws permit you to keep a large exotic animal like this one, the site below (feline conservation federation) offers wild animal husbandry courses - this is a serious responsibility, and to say it is not for everyone is a major understatement. Hope you don't have kids where you plan to keep the jaguar because wild cats and young kids do NOT mix (fatalities have resulted). Usually, you'd be better off with an Ocicat or a Bengal kitten from a reputable breeder, they are adorable cats, usually bred for good temperament. The CFA has good information on breed standards for these cats.

Do NOT get a jaguar as a pet. Big cats simply cannot be made pets. Period. Go to your local animal shelter and adopt a house cat instead.
If you really want to "own" a jaguar, adopt one through the World Wildlife Fund or Defenders of Wildlife.

Baby jaguars are great, it's when they grow up and try to kill you that it's a problem. Then someone else has to take care of your "pet" for the rest of it's life when it should have been able to live in the wild in the first place. Quit being selfish. If you love this animal let it live as it was intended to live and that is not with you!!!!!

Go for a bengal cat instead. They're small, they eat like a domestic cat, and you can hold, love and play with them like a normal cat. However, they have jaguar-like markings, a wild-type head, body, and movement; and they're active just like a wild cat, never grow up, meaning, they play with everything, even when they grow up. Look them up; I have a feeling you'll decide to go for these wonderful cats; which are definatwely a lot more appropriate for someone who wants any sort of cat as a pet.

Well most people just want a dog or cat. But if you really wanted a baby Jaguar for a pet you could check at a zoo or an animal rescue building. You would you have to get it de-clawed and take it to a vet and get its teeth flattened.

Jaguars are not indiginous to Africa. This is a stupid and bad idea which you have obviously not researched thoroughly. It's the "I want...this, I want that...I WANT I WANT I WANT" mentality that lands so many domesticated AND wild pet animals in overcrowded shelters. Hundreds of thousands are euthanized every year. Get real and get educated and get a conscience.

it is unethical to own a jaguar they are wild animals. to take them out of the wild and into a home would be outragious. it would cause depression in the cat which leads to aggresion. even if the cat hand raised natural instincts would make it so it would never be completely tame. Jaguars are supposed to be roaming the free jungle not in your living room. Its also illegal in most states. if you really love them you will enjoy them from a distnce in the wild. please dont take this the wrong way its just not right

You can't really own a Jaquar, because they are a wild animal. They belong out in the wild. You would also need to learn training to keep them tame and from attacking you. But no, it can't happen, if so, they won't survive. They're not like regualr house animals who can survive on dog and cat food, or bird seeds. They eat real meat!

If you could pull that one off, go to it. But remember Jaguars aren't domestic pets and you may find yourself on the menu one day! Leave 'em along ... you'll live longer!
