No sorry, you must buy an animal from a store in order to play. You play online without purchasing a secret code and the only way to play on the site is to own a secret code. There are no trial accounts, as far as I know. The only way to try out an account would be to find a friend who owns one and ask if you can play on their account once or twice.

As far as I know you have to have a code. You can tour the site but thats about it.
