it's not thousands of dollars, it's millions. and as far as comparing the three jackasses to scientists or explorers, forget it, they just did it for selfish thrills. it's a question of too much time and money , and the unwillingness to do anything useful. as far as eating donuts, yeah, i thing they should have stayed home and stuffed themselves and not put others at risk. no sympathy

If we're going to allow fat people to still eat things like hamburgers, ice cream, cake, chips, drink soda - why would we take away the right of someone else to die in an idiotic fashion? After all, the United States spends more on health care for our fatties every month than we do on search and rescue missions for the outdoorsy types every year.

Over 50% of the population of the United States is clinically obese. The entire population of the US pays for the health care for these gluttons either directly because they do not have insurance or indirectly through higher insurance premiums. Put down the donut and climb a mountain instead, fatties. It's cheaper for the rest of us and you just may slim down. If it will help motivate you, I'm quite certain there's both a KFC and a Dunkin' Donuts at the summit...

The answer to your question is yes, it is a good enough reason that "because its there" nobody seriously believes they will die though - if we didnt do these things how would we know all the things we know ... l join you in your prayers for the missing too

I'm going middle-ground on this one. I like indoor rock climbing, where it doesn't get horrendously cold, I'm never far from society, and I still get to challenge myself.

Ever since someone invented helicopters, I have no idea why people insist on climbing OVER mountains to get where they're going.

I agree with what you say. They would argue that you are not living, unless you feel alive. I guess its the risk and the challenge that makes them feel that life is worthwhile. Not the particular route I would want to go down, but there you go.

Surely we as human's should and always will look for a challenge? It's how we have evolved. We need to test ourselves, individually and as people.

People do dangerous things everyday. if we didn't there would simply be no point in living. Don't judge people so harshly.--
