It was a well done piece of drama.
I could identify with the Colin Firth character even though I'm not rich in the slightest. Especially around this time of year I feel slightly guilty of what I have when other don't have anything.
I felt sorry for the Robert Carlyle character at first but after the shock ending it makes you realise that some people are truely disturbed for one reason or another.
I worry myself to death about people like that when my husbands out on a lad night out. All it take is for you to look at someone the wrong way and you can end up dead. It's no longer fists but knives.
Definately a programme that made you think.

Yes...it seemed like a 21st century version of Cathy Come Home (1966)...but as we're in 2006 - a wee bit of violence and portrait of young lass who wanted someone to love her - and who would go any which way to gain it is a sign of the current times, along with Africans who couldn't find a way out - damn...got home from work just as it was starting. The social worker trying to take the wee bairn to foster parents in the hospital, while her ma was having baby was just like the final piece in Cathy...she had spent all night at Liverpool Street station in London, sitting on the seats before hardy social workers successfully dragged her bairns away from her despite her fighting. She was left crying her eyes out as the credits came up.

Did the man 'choose the wrong path' - or did he come to his senses in the nick of time - but are we talking about the husband, or the mad Mr. Carlyle?!

How far have we actually come in 40 years? I feel saddened because I know some friends in Streatham, South West London who run one of these B+B's for homeless, people who have been in so-called 'domestics'...and a few immigrants who have been sent there from the Croydon office - and my friends' wife is often in tears...but also know there are two sides to some 'homeless/domestic' stories - for some are not as 'innocent' as first portrayed..and I'm sure Charlotte has seen such skanking as well - like the 'homeless' my friend will called 'ghosts' - they claim to be homeless, but are living with extremely understanding friends/or family, knowing if they stay on the 'homeless' list for long, they'll be given a half-decent flat in time..just as long as they sign the signing-in form daily in advance, they will not have to return there until, say the end of the week.

Let's hope you get some more answers - for despite your question apparently not being as 'sexy' as most people would like (I have a question about UK deaths in police custody)...seems most UK observers like to give it their all concerning Muslim/race/sex issues, but are not keen to answer questions regarding the other side of the coin. However, it'd be good to get some half decent answers from your one.

Yes, having been homeless in my past it cut me deep - I feel bad everytime I see a homeless person as I know it could so easily be me, and I do not have drug or alcholol problem but I lost my home thru domestic violence... and then my job... its v hard to watch something like that and not feel moved.

I have to admit to feeling more sorry for the women rather than the man.
