clutch in - start car
shift into first (or reverse) slowly let clutch out until you feel it stat grabbing, slowly give gas and let clutch out

The clutch disconnects the engine from the wheels.
It's used in two different ways.
1. Starting up. The clutch is depressed and the transmission is shifted into 1st gear. The driver uses a little accelerator and then lets up slowly on the clutch pedal. This gets the car moving.
2. After the car is moving, the driver accelerates until a certain point (the point depends on too many factors to list here) Then the driver pushes in the clutch and shifts the transmission to the next higher gear (1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc.)
When the driver wants to bring the car to a full stop, the driver steps on the clutch just before the car stops. The transmission is put into neutral and everything starts all over again.

okay, just letting you know that my answer nor anyone else's is going to teach you to drive stick, you need a car to learn on.
but anyway.......
get in the car. push down on the brake (center) and the clutch (left). start the car. release the parking brake.
now's the fun part:
always start in first. that's obvious. put the car in 1st gear and slowly give it some gas (don't floor it or make it rev high) then when you're ready slowly let off the clutch. now everyone seems to confuse themselves when i tell them this. i mean gradually let go of the clutch. even after the car starts to move, keep letting up slowly. don't just get it to move and release, that pisses off your passengers and makes it a bumpy ride.
next, when the car gets going, you're going to have to shift to second soon. when you hear a high rev from the motor (not to the point where people a block away can hear it) or when the needle on the tach gets up to around 2500 rpm, push the clutch down while letting off the gas. shift to second. give it a little gas and slowly release the clutch. it will be easier this time, since the car is already moving.
next: stopping
that's easy, just step on the clutch then the brake. if you slow down gradually, just keep the car in 2nd gear, no need to go to first since that's only for getting you going.
hope that helps out.
