Depending on the time frame, certain inventors were more notable than others.

Thomas Savery was an English military engineer and inventor who in 1698, patented the first crude steam engine, based on Denis Papin's Digester or pressure cooker of 1679. (This led, eventually to the Industrial Revolution).

Leonardo DaVinci - a lot of things, but primarily as the inventor of the waterwheel.

Cleisthenes (inventor/founder of democracy as portrayed by the ancient Greeks)

Otto von Guericke invented a machine that produced static electricity ... back in 1660.

John Ambrose Fleming invented the diode rectifier vacuum tube ... in 1904 ... to become the forefather of modern electronics.

Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen had discovered X rays in 1895, and in 1896 Antoine Henri Becquerel had discovered that the element uranium gives off similar invisible radiations. ... which led to Marie Curie's discovery of radium in 1898.

And the rest, they say, is history ...

This sounds like a lotta nonsense. However, there is a slim chance that it could be true. If you knew every thing that the government was involved in, you would be afraid to go to sleep at night. Big oil companies and auto manufacturers have been known to put pressure on inventors such as your friend. Also, whether your story is true is an entirely different story. However, I am remaining neutral. I have always heard that anything is possible

Prehistoric man because without the foundation of knowledge built by prehistoric man, we would all still be living in caves.

i must say it`s wilhelm roentgen and madame marie curie
i`s because both of them contibutes to the discovery of radiation,.,.
where in the radiation help most of the people was banifited,.,treating disease,.and diagnosing some dieseases,.,such as leukimia.
