The movie is set in some "future" date but the costumes and set design are firmly South East England in the 1960s... sort of stylized Mods... the language is based on the slang spoken by characters in the book that inspired the movie... the mix is as mentioned above.... do not loose sight of the fact that this is a sicence fiction movie... hope that helps...and now for a bit of the old Ultra Violence!

At the time it was made (late 60's-early 70's), it was supposed to be Great Britain in the 1990's. Since things are the way they are now, they missed the mark in a few ways. The same goes for 2001: A Space Odessy and it's sequel 2010: The Year We Made Contact (since the USSR and Pan-Am have both folded).

Yes. It's a brilliant film based on an even better book. Stanley Kubrick is an amazing Director. It is a strange film though and you really need to pay attention if you are going to enjoy it fully. Read the book if you have the time, then watch the movie.
