Not to sound too techish, but in the greater scheme of things...equal. They are members of the same species and this would put their 'natural' abilities pretty close, like any other 'animal'. However, here on good ol' earth the symbiotes have taken hosts. is the original Black symbiote and a spawned symbiote took hosts they would boost the host attributes by nearly the same amount. Assuming the hosts were equal. But if host A is a professional boxer and host B is an overweight kindergardener...host B will get flattened. On the physical level advantage is A's, but a small child's imagination can be scary. Host B may transform his symbiote into the closet monster and be even more dangerous than the skilled fighter. One of the reasons given fur Puny Parker's symbiote going rogue was that it craved adrenaline, it was a thrill junkie. since psychos have neurotransmitters to spare this could explain how the smaller, less athletic Cassidy gave the bulky Eddie Brock a run for his money. Where Venom may have the edge in brute force Carnage was more willing to go all out to damage his targets. Oh my, I have gone on. In sumation Un hosted ... equal. Hosted, depends on the host. Physicality can be toppled by skill and talent...Batman vs Superman. Also it depends on who's book it is and who is writing.

I'd say they're both about equal in terms of power. Carnage seems to be a little faster and he's able to mold his suit into small weapons. Venom is probably stronger though and seems to have better control over his powers. I know in the comics or television series from the 90's, Venom needed Spidey's help to take Carnage out, but I'd say they're really equal. Of course, on sheer popularity alone, I'd go with Venom. Carnage is too much of a copy, and slightly weird as well.

Not sure who is strongest. I see a lot of people have given you technical answers but I think it might boil down to the fact that Carnage was a symbiote joined with a serial killer, therefore he might not be the strongest but he has the least decency and probably the least hesitation in hurting anyone. The classic Venom was mostly obsessed with Spiderman/Peter Parker, whereas Carnage was all for killing anyone.

If you meant physically, then it was originally Carnage. when he debuted he was stronger then Venom, and could lift (press) about 15 tons while Venom could only lift about 11 tons.

Recently however the Venom sybiote has joined with Mac Gargan and this has formed and even stronger and more monsterous Venom. Since Mac Gargan used to be the Scorpion and has enhnced strength (as the Scorpion he could press 15 tons {Equal to Spider-man})
Also recently Carnage was apaerently killed during an escape attempt from the Raft. During the massive breakout, the Sentry grabbed a fleeing Carnage, flew him into the upper atmosphere and tore him to shreds. This means he has effectively no strength since carnage is dead.

Carnage is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics Universe, a supervillain and adversary of Spider-Man and Venom. Created by writer David Michelinie and artist Mark Bagley, he first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #361 (April 1992).

Carnage is the result of a spawning of a separate extraterrestrial symbiote worn by Venom. This symbiote bonded with serial killer Cletus Kasady, creating one of Spider-Man’s most murderous adversaries.

So does it matter? really no, as we are talking about a comic book, and not life? Of course if you refer to the game boy, then Carnage is an unbeatable foe in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for the Game Boy, and you can't beat him... but what about Toxin is said to be the most powerful symbiote of them all - having the abilities of both Venom and Carnage combined. Again, this may be due to his gestation on Earth.
