My 4 month old was sleeping 8 to 9 hrs through the night but then all of a sudden about 1 1/2 wks ago she started waking up 2 to 3 times at night. Nothing has changed she takes 2 naps each an hour long (1 at around 11am and the other around 5pm). She is already eating 2 servings of rice cereal (1 at around 10am and the other around 7pm) Any explanations why? Thanks in advance.

Ok for 1 i know what feeding solids is a old wives tale but I put in because everybody always asks that question first in other similar questions and second I have tried to stop feeding them to her and got the same result.

I don't put her cereal in her bottle I feed it to her from a bowl with a spoon and as for a growth spurt she is already 17lbs and 28 inches, I can't imagine her getting any bigger at this age.

my 4 month old does the same thing, i found out that he has alot of gas so it bothers him and also hes teething so he gets fussy and cant sleep so check if she has gas or she could be teething, also i found out that give her gripe water then let her sleep on her stomach, my baby has been sleeping on his stomach since he was born and he loves it and ive notice he sleeps his full 9 hrs and every 3 hrs wakes up for a feeding and then he goes back to sleep hope this helps.

She could be going through a growth spurt or I would switch her second nap at 5 pm to no later than 3:30pm because between 12 am and 5 pm is a long stretch. She could be over tired which affects night time sleep. Babies that nap past 3:00 pm have a hard time sleeping at night. Babies who get good naps that are spread accordingly every day sleep better at night. Try to put her down at 10:30 am for the morning and then 1:00 pm for her second nap. When she gets to about 1 1/2 switch it to one nap a day. Don't put cereal in her bottle. Cereal doesn't make a baby sleep better. It poses as a choking hazard and introduces allergies later in life. She should be starting solids at 6 months and be fed with a spoon when she has good control of her head and can sit upright with support.

Just for you information....
Feeding a baby solids DOES NOT make them sleep longer.
That is an old wives tale.
Since she's only 4 months old, it's possible that her digestive system cannot handle solids yet, try cutting out the cereal for a few days and see if that helps

I would say teething or growth spurt, more than likely.
My son will be a year on the 27th and he gets up once or twice during the night, it happens in phases.

Sometimes babies just fall out of the schedule. Maybe you should give her the second rice cereal later than 7p.m. This should hold her off more. Also, it could be she needs a little more cereal in her bottle.

umm. im not sure the reason but my baby was doing the same thing and i put a boppy pillow in her crib and put a blanket over it and put her in the middle and she slept all night i guess because she felt like she was being held, soo maybe she's just uncomfortable, sounds like her eating schedules are good! good luck!

babies start teething at that age. maybe she is just irritable. try sleeping with her. a little tylenol 30 min before bed may help too. Good luck..it is just a stage....remember, this is the easiest it gets...so deep breaths...
