I'll be the first to admit (ok, the first to admit this question) that I LOVE superheros. Everything from "Who Wants To Be A Superhero?" to the "X-Men" movies. I love the idea, the personalities, the conflicts, all of it. Any idea why?

Please don't spend all your answer psychoanalyzing me (though you can if you like), but try to tell me what you think about this phenomenon across cultures, because these movies and TV shows are not made just for me, you know. (Be cool if they were, but no, doesn't work that way.)

I think everyone likes the fact that, whether in reality or not, someone can solve all the world's problems. The superheroes are so much like us and yet so different. They can solve all the world's problems in one day, yet go home and live a normal life. They find ways to solve their problems and to overcome their fears, which is something some of us have only dreamed about. They are our dreams, hopes, and wishes personified.

I think we all dream of being a hero of any sort, but having some superpower sure is an easy way to do it!
